Happy Easter Mom, I Miss You.

It is Good Friday.

The sun is shining. Bird song flows in through my balcony doors mixed with the lively conversation of two guys enjoying lunch on their own balcony.

I sit at my PC busily preparing a humorous post for my blog. As I type a memory slips in…

Unbidden, it remains shyly, almost in focus. I stop what I’m doing, shift my mind’s eye towards it.

Suddenly I am back at Turnstyle, the shopping mall where mom used to take me for new school clothes. I remember cranberry and navy blue being my school’s colors and wool six-inches-from-the-top-of-the-knee skirt measures for the school’s uniform. The joy of finding matching wool ridged-cable knee socks to go with my new cranberry cardigan
and …

And it was also the place she took me for strawberry ice cream sundaes topped with sweet whipped cream and salty pecans. I always had butter pecan ice cream in my sundae, she always had maple walnut. I always asked for extra pecans…

Today would have been one of our strawberry ice cream sundae days.

My eyes smart then sting…why do they say “smart” when describing such irritation?

It’s not…Oh, damn!

Now I’m crying…

Happy Easter Mom, I miss you.

Your writing takes us to the shopping mall and right into your sundae with you.

    Happy Easter.
